Championing Our Vibrant Arts!
For over three decades, the Raleigh Arts Commission has served as the leading force to champion the arts with Raleigh citizens and their representatives. The Commission's ongoing efforts have helped transform Raleigh into one of the "Creative Capitals" of the South!
Successful advocacy efforts have included: the establishment of funding for local arts agencies and programs through annual per capita for the arts funding allocation; advocacy of construction for new arts facilities such as Artspace and the Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts; development of city-wide arts festivals, including the spring arts festival (now managed by Artsplosure), and the Raleigh Street Painting Festival (now under the direction of Visual Art Exchange); creation of strategic city cultural plans to ascertain needs and guide the development of the arts; establishment of a percent for public art program; and the Declaration of Raleigh Arts, signed by 46 Raleigh cultural organizations, expressing the core values and essential role of Art in the community.
The arts make a difference in the quality of life of our city's residents, and help make Raleigh a wonderful city to visit, as well as live!
