Curbside Recycling

The City of Raleigh wants to make curbside recycling simple and convenient for you.  Recycling is easy, and it's rewarding.  Just a few minutes a day is all it takes to do your part to help reduce the amount of solid waste we put in our landfills.   Raleigh Recycling, the City's recycling program, provides residents with curbside recycling collection every week.

The following items are collected for recycling:

  • newspaper and all inserts
  • magazines and catalogs
  • white paper, including junk mail
  • corrugated cardboard pieces no larger than 3' x 3' in size
  • paperboard, chipboard, and paper tubes
  • food and beverage cans
  • aluminum foil and trays (must be completely free of food debris)
  • plastic bottles
  • plastic beverage rings (soft type only, not the rigid type)
  • glass food and beverage containers
  • gable top cartons
  • aseptic (drink) boxes

To participate in this convenient curbside program, simply place your recyclables in the Raleigh Recycling bin and set it at the curb, not in the street, by 7 a.m. on your designated collection day.  Any changes in the schedule due to holidays will be advertised in local newspapers, posted on the city’s web site or can be heard by calling the Solid Waste Services recorded hotline at 831-6194.

The recycling container has been provided by the City of Raleigh for recycling purposes only. . . .  If you move, please leave the container for the next resident to use.

If you have more recyclables than the container will hold, you may take these materials to one of the City's seven drop-off recycling centers, or you may purchase an additional recycling bin  from the City of Raleigh for $6.00 each (less than cost).  You may also use any other container that is similar in shape and size to the green recycling bin.

If you frequently have trouble lifting your bin or carrying it to the curb because it is too heavy, we offer a recycle bin cart  for $18.00 (cost).  This light-weight device hooks under the outer lip of the recycling bin.  It can then be easily wheeled to the curb.

If you have mobility impairment and no one in your household can move the recycling container to and from the curb, Raleigh Recycling can help.  Call 831-6890 to arrange for assistance.

If you have any questions about recyclable items or missed collections, call Raleigh Recycling at 831-6890, Monday through Friday form 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

**  Recycling in NC is a net job creator and growing part of our state's economy. Recycling employs over 14,000 North Carolinians and recycling jobs have increased about 12% in the past five years.  **
