Intersection Of E. Jones, Seawell To Close For Sinkhole Repairs

The City of Raleigh is closing the intersection of East Jones Street and Seawell Avenue to through traffic for approximately three weeks beginning Monday, June 23. Crews will be making repairs brought on by a sinkhole. The intersection is expected to reopen on July 15.

The sinkhole developed at the intersection on Tuesday, June 17 and measured 6 feet in diameter and 3 feet in depth. The sinkhole was caused by obstructed storm drainage lines and an obstructed blind junction box. The City is contracting with Narron Contracting Inc. to make the necessary repairs to allow safe travel through the intersection and to minimize the potential for street flooding in this area.

Traffic will be detoured around the East Jones Street/Seawell Avenue intersection while the repairs are being done.
